ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF MICROFINANCE ON WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT AND POVERTY REDUCTION IN INDIA

This study explores the role of microfinance as a strategic tool for promoting women’s empowerment and reducing poverty in India. With a focus on both rural and urban settings, the research examines how access to microfinance services-such as microloans, savings, and self-help groups (SHGs)-affects women’s economic independence, decision-making power, and social status. The study employs both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to evaluate the outcomes of microfinance participation among women beneficiaries across different socio-economic backgrounds. Findings reveal that microfinance significantly contributes to enhancing women’s income-generating capacity and household well-being. However, the impact varies based on factors such as education, geographic location, and institutional support. The study highlights the need for integrated approaches that combine financial services with capacity building and policy support to maximize the empowerment and poverty-alleviation potential of microfinance initiatives in India.
