INTERACTIVE EFFECTS OF ELDERLY PREFERENCES AND SPATIAL ADAPTABILITY ON SUPPORT FOR URBAN REGENERATION: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF RESIDENTIAL SATISFACTION IN HIGH-DENSITY CITIES
Urban regeneration in high-density cities increasingly requires resident-centric approaches, particularly for elderly populations who are highly dependent on their immediate environments. This study examines how elderly preferences and spatial adaptability jointly influence support for urban regeneration, with residential satisfaction acting as a mediating mechanism. Drawing on person–environment fit theory, the research develops an integrated behavioral model and tests it using data collected from 312 elderly residents in dense urban communities. The findings reveal that both preferences and adaptability significantly enhance residential satisfaction, which in turn strongly predicts regeneration support. Importantly, spatial adaptability amplifies the influence of preferences, suggesting that adaptable environments are critical for translating individual needs into positive behavioral outcomes. The study contributes to urban planning literature by offering a refined understanding of how environmental and psychological factors interact to shape regeneration support among aging populations.
